Girls Education and Civil Documentation

Project: Removing Barriers to Inclusive Primary School Education and Civil Documentation for Syrian Refugee Girls in Arsal, Lebanon

Overview: A refugee-led initiative facilitated by Refugee Protection International with community partners Multi Aid Programs and Union of Relief & Development Associations

Giving Partner(s): This project is made possible by a generous grant from Together Women Rise (formerly Dining for Women) to Refugee Protection International and by our wider circle of supporters. As a Featured Grantee Project in 2020, this inspiring initiative builds on RPI’s collaboration with grassroots partner MAPS on refugee education since 2016 (with the support of the American Securities Foundation) and with URDA on refugee access to civil documentation.

Summary: This project is working with up to 2,670 Syrian women and girls in Arsal, Lebanon in order to deliver free, regulated non-formal primary education by female refugee teachers to 300 Syrian girls; mobilize 1,500 community members on the importance of educating girls and children with disabilities; support access to on inclusive education for children with neurodiversity learning challenges and disabilities; counsel 1,000 women on the process of birth registration for children born in Lebanon to facilitate access to education and other public services; and accompany and pay for the birth registration of 155 vulnerable girls. This project focuses on the most vulnerable refugees, including single mothers and their daughters, bringing hope during a time of chaos in Lebanon.

    Together Women Rise

Refugee Protection International is grateful to Together Women Rise (formerly Dining for Women) for generously supporting this project.

Together Women Rise is a powerful community of women and allies dedicated to achieving global gender equality. We have hundreds of local chapters across the U.S. where members learn about and advocate for gender equality issues, give grants to organizations that empower women and girls in low-income countries, and build community to forge meaningful connections that increase our strength and collective impact.
