RPI and Kids Paradise (2024)

Project Summary: Refugee Protection International and long-time Middle East partner Kids Paradise have partnered to support community volunteers in Gaza, including Malak Fada and Nour Alnajjar to cook and distribute hot food, water tanks, insecticide, gas for cooking, fresh fruits & vegetables, psychosocial support, and other emergency aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs). Over 75,000 primarily women and children have been assisted in the heartbreaking IDP camps in the Gaza Strip. Twelve community kitchens were set up under this project in Rafah by the RPI-funded KP Malak Fund. Following the May 6, 2024 Israeli evacuation orders to civilians in parts of Rafah, these kitchens were relocated and consolidated in the ruins of Khan Younis in the Al-Mawasi “humanitarian zone.” Hot meal distribution continues amid the wreckage of Khan Younis, which was once Gaza Strip’s second largest city. The provision of community water tanks has been critical as children are falling ill from lack of clean water. Food supplies are procured internally and from neighboring countries. As there is currently little humanitarian access across the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, aid supplies will also be delivered from Jordan. Israeli evacuation orders issued July 1,2024 for civilians in east Khan Younis is causing repeat displacement and will put more pressure on the RPI-KP Malak community kitchen. Background: RPI has collaborated with Kids Paradise since 2019 on improving relief aid, livelihoods, and psychosocial well-being in war-torn northwest Syria and for victims of the 2023 earthquakes in Turkey & Syria. Based in southern Turkey, Kids Paradise was founded by refugee volunteers at the height of the Syrian war. In America, RPI sells crafts made by displaced women trained in a joint humanitarian self-reliance program with Kids Paradise and other refugee-led partners.
